Stafford native Jacob Boyd, 30, was arrested for his third DUI offense in the past decade after allegedly taking a heroin and fentanyl mix before going for a ride.
At approximately 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night, the Stafford County Sheriff's Office received a complaint about a drunk driver who was struggling to keep a Ford pick-up truck in his lane on I-95.
The caller followed the truck - which was being operated by Boyd - as it took the 143A exit toward Richmond Highway, where deputies spotted him going 51 mph in a 35 mph zone, prompting a traffic stop.
During that stop, investigators say that Boyd "had constricted pupils and slow speech, all signs of drug impairment," and he was detained after failing Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.
Inside the vehicle, deputies recovered suspected controlled substances, and Boyd later admitted to smoking a heroin and fentanyl mix earlier that day before driving.
Further investigation found that Boyd also had prior DUI offenses in Stafford and Fairfax counties.
Boyd was charged with driving under the influence third offense within ten years, possession of controlled substances, and speeding.
He's being held at the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond.
